In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.
1 Peter 3:15
Confirmation is a public rite of the Lutheran church preceeded by a period of instruction in which baptized Christians learn about the confession, life, and mission of the Christian church. The Rite of Confirmation provides an opportunity for the individual Christian, relying on God's promise, given in Holy Baptism, to make a personal, public confession of the faith and a lifelong pledge of fidelity to Christ. (Luther's Small Catechism, p. 51)
Confirmation instruction at Chapel of the Cross consists of two years of instruction in the Christian faith according to the Word of God as explained in Luther's Small Catechism. Students study the foundational teachings of the Bible including the Ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed, the Lord's Prayer, Confession and Absolution, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, and the Sacrament of the Altar.
Beyond time together in the classroom, confirmands serve as acolytes during Sunday worship services, take notes on the worship and sermon (download worship and sermon note form below), complete memory work, prepare a service project (download service project report form below), and give a faith life testimony at the completion of the two-year confirmation program.
