“One in Four”
A Study of the Four Biblical Versions of the One Christian Gospel

Most Christians know there are four distinct, yet very similar, accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus in the Bible. We call them by the names of the individuals who wrote them: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. But where did these writings come from? Who were the people who wrote them? Why aren’t the four versions identical? What about other so-called “gospels” that archaeologists occasionally find today? What specific purpose do these ancient writings serve in the church today? These are the kinds of questions we’ll discuss during this four-part Bible class. We’ll examine the history behind the composition of these writings and their place in the formation of the New Testament in the early church. Most importantly, we’ll discuss how these four accounts of the good news of Jesus shape us for faithful life and witness in today’s increasingly post-Christian culture.
